CONFIDENTLY CREATE YOUR OWN QUILT

LEARN IT ALL IN 9 WEEKS

Understand all the work that has never been shown to you

(without all the adding and subtracting headaches, all the hesitations in making choices and the "not understanding" the pattern)

If you are a beginner, a quilter, a designer or a shop owner looking to make quilts with all the step by step directions, worksheets, spreadsheets, exercises to make your journey into the quilt designing and making as passionate as possible while doing other projects on the side then you most probably need an all in one place, A to Z, quilt course.

So I'll make you save time

No need to tell you that a step by step workbook is the best way to work.

After all, you probably already have read magazines, leaflets or downloadables that give you glimpse on how to make patchwork tops or quilts.

You've probably have given a try in drawing your blocks, and making a project of your own.

HERE'S WHAT YOU

MIGHT HAVE FELT

Even if you have experience in making quilts by following the instructions, whether you machine piece or hand piece, machine quilt or hand quilt, this course can give you insights on avoiding these situations you might have come across:

  • ADAPTING A PATTERN

You fell in love with a quilt pattern, but the size did not fit the use you intended to have for it, you either needed it smaller or bigger, therefore you just left it aside because you didn't have the tools to figure out how to reduce it or increase it
  • MIXING DESIGNER FABRIC

You are not the type of person to always buy the fat quarter bundle and sometimes just fall for a fat quarter that has a print that you just love, or you can't resist when you see some pieces of fabric on sale in your shop. Once you take out that box where you pilled up all those fabrics, you are not sure how you can associate them
  • HANDQUILTING

You've tried several times to hand quilt a top, but what design should be done, a simple one that runs across the quilt or a more detailed one that goes arround the shapes, but then you end up cutting the thread, making knots all over the place and not getting anywhere, you feel you are spending lots of time on a simple task.

EVEN THOUGH THE MOTIVATION TO DESIGNING A QUILT BY YOURSELF IS HIGH - DOING SO WITHOUT THE PROPER DOCUMENTS IS ANYTHING BUT

Ever wonder about

SHAPES

when making a quilt, you will need to prepare your shapes, to do so you will need templates, they can be made out of paper, that will need some calculation, preparation and cutting, or templates made out of acrylic, more resistant but with a set size, so which would be best?

Ever wonder about

COLORS

when making a quilt, you will need some colors that will be provided by the fabric. Pieces of fabric are not just monochrome, they have prints, small scale, large scale or directional. Printed fabrics can't all be used for the same purpose, the size of the blocks will influence the choice of the fabric print, so how should that be done?

Ever wonder about

DISTRIBUTION

when making a quilt, you will need to distribute the colors on the quilt top in an harmonious way, you can choose to dispatch the colors on the background of the quilt or dispatch the colors on the blocks themselves, so how can that be done?

Ever wonder about

PIECING

when making a quilt, you need to think about the seam allowances, should they all be open or should they all go to a side, that can be determined by a stitch in the ditch quilting but can also be determined by the thickness built by all the fabric being folded to the same side, so how does one figure that out?

Ever wonder about

QUILTING

when making a quilt, you need to finish all your project with the quilting pattern, it can be machine quilted or hand quilted, in a small project it can be nice to hand quilt it, so how can you optimise the use of one strand of thread?

THE FIVE BELIEFS THAT HOLD PEOPLE BACK

(how that won't stop you)

  • PATCHWORK IMPLIES LOTS OF CALCULATIONS

    HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT TEMPLATES
Any block design is a set up of geometrical pets, it just needs to be broken down to the basic shapes, you can either make them yourself on paper or you can use all the acrylic templates available on the market, a module will lead you through the use of such templates, how to adapt them to your design.
  • MATCHING COLORS CAN BE COMPLICATED

HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT COLOR WHEEL
If you are not sure or not confortable in matching colors, there is a tool used by lots of activities involving colors which is the color wheel. It is easily adaptable to the patchwork world when you know how to "read" it. It will also bring some effect to your quilt as the brain will interpret the cold colors and warm colors differently. A module is dedicated to using the colors wheel in giving quilts great visual effects.
  • CALCULATING THE AMOUNT OF FABRIC NEEDED IS TO COMPLEX

    HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT ARRANGEMENT
Most fabric lines are sold in fat quarter bundles, or fat quarter units. A bolt has a set size of 108 inches, so fat quarters mostly measure 18 x 21 inches, what ever the company printing it. Once that measurement down, wether your project is from home made templates or acrylic templates, figuring out is made easy with one of the modules in the course.
  • HAND QUILTING IS A DIFFICULT TASK

    HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT STRUCTURE
The quilting of a patchwork top can either be hand made or machine made. When choosing to hand quilt a top some decisions need to be taken. Will it be an allover quilting or an "almond" each shape quilting. For the latter one, it isn't necessary to go around the shape, cut the thread, then start again around another shape. In one of the modules, you will get a really cool trick on how to anticipate the quilt of a traditional block with one "thread stroke".
  • DESIGNING A QUILT IS NOT ACHIEVABLE

    HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT CONSTRUCTION
Any project being implemented needs good tools and documentation to reach a perfect result. Designing a Quilt is the same, if you know how to start it right, how to do the steps by steps correctly, have the worksheets you need at your disposal, you will achieve the work in no time, that's what Designing a Quilt 101 is all about.

YOU'VE BOUGHT THE MAGAZINES AND THE BOOKS, YOU'VE BEEN ON YOUTUBE FOR HOURS BUT YOU STILL ARE NOT SURE ON THE HOWS

want to stop looking all over the place and give a go to an A to Z, step by step course

want to stop spending hours on the internet to only get glimpse of what quilt making is all about, instead spend that time learning what you will never find anywhere else but in this course

want a new approach to quilt making where you can get the tips to personalize your quilt, a nine module course will get you there in no time

Introducing

DESIGNING A QUILT 101

IN JUST 9 MODULES YOU WILL BE MAKING YOUR WAY AROUND ANY QUILT PATTERN

The complete A to Z, step by step quilt workbook that will get you creating your own quilts in no time

I've been in the design business for the past thirteen years with Alice and Co Designs, I study everything about patchworks all that time, I published quilts in a French magazine, even had a fabric collection out in 2011. With my Craft Trainer Award obtained in England, I have put together a course that is easy to understand, and easy to use, what ever level you might have, there will be a module that will blow your mind.

DESIGNING A QUILT 101 is the first quilt workbook of its kind that…

1. has worksheets easy to use (over 300 worksheets that you will color in, cut up, draw on and use as reminders for all your upcoming projects)

2. breaks down the use of a color wheel (a color wheel made especially for you that you will never want to depart from)

3. goes through block arrangements (an easy technique that can be used anytime to create your own blocks and name them for others to use)

So if you are ready to finally get the tools that you were missing
Here's how I'll help you get here:
Module 1

SHAPES

All designs start with a shape: a square, a triangle, a rectangle, etc. You will be making blocks of your own inspiration and creating 3, 4 or 5 patch blocks.

  • basic shapes
  • patch grid
  • composition of block
Module 2

COLORS

We all have attraction to different colors, the way to mix and match them is by using a color wheel in an original way. There are many prints, so there is a way to make an harmonious bundle.

  • color of motif
  • fabric prints
  • fabric groups
Module 3

BLOCKS

An in depth approach to designing blocks and making a one in a kind quilt top

  • one direction square
  • two direction square
  • four direction square
Module 4

DISTRIBUTION

The ultimate use of a color wheel, either by using it on the blocks themselves or on the background of the top

  • chromatic circle
  • color distribution on squares
  • blocks to color
Module 5

PATTERNS

Playing with the block either in a geometrical traditional way or a total scrappy way to give the quilt top an even more crazy look. No more guessing how much fabric will be needed.

  • preparation for a top
  • fabric needs
  • creating blocks
Module 6

CUTTING

Optimizing the fabric by cutting in a "non waste" way. Choosing the proper templates when preparing a block. A look into Fussy Cutting.

  • Cutting fabric
  • Picking templates
  • Fussy Cut
Module 7

PIECING

Anticipating the "assembly line" of a block to save time and thread, by limiting the sewing steps. Looking into the seam allowance.

  • Assembling blocks
  • Sewing steps
  • Seam allowance
Module 8

QUILTING

Hand quilting made easy with a very smart technique never seen before.

  • Quilt preparation
  • Quilting designs
  • Single stroke
Module 9

BINDING

The bias is a smart move but the folding is another way to do it.

  • Bias
  • Folding

QUESTIONS

WHAT QUILT MAKER ASKED BEFORE SIGNING UP FOR DESIGNING A QUILT 101

All the modules are step by step friendly as they are full of exercises, videos, PDFs. All exercises will come with the solutions or suggestions.

There are 9 modules, every week a module will become available, after 9 weeks you will have all the modules.

Each module has exercises to do, some exercises are done quickly, others can take more time. But an exercise does not need to be finished to go on the next one, so you can always come back later to finish it.

The purpose of this course is to "create" your own patterns. So there isn't a project pre set, but at the end of the course you will most likely have loads of quilts that you will want to make. Once you are ready to get to work, all the information you need will be available in the course wether you are a beginner or an expert.

This is a paid course that you will join to learn how to design your own patterns. Sharing the course is not allowed but once you get designing your own patterns, you can do what ever you want with your own work. I am giving you the tools for you to become a designer.

You will need a printer, paper, coloring pencils, pen, scissors and pins to do the exercises. Then once you get making your project, you will need all the traditional notions that you must probably already have, otherwise you can refer to the "Notions" PDF that will be provided.

It is for everybody that wish to push the quilting experience one step further. If you have been making quilts following patterns, this course will go deeper into understanding those patterns. If you want to design quilts but don't know where to start, this course will help you launch yourself. If you are a shop owner and don't have the spreadsheets, don't have the time to make them or don't know where to find them, then this course is for you.

I will be available on a Facebook group during the time of the course so you will never be left alone to figure it out. Plus each module will always be available for you to get back to.
