I have been working on the Gestalt Principles in Design, and have been looking into how to adapt it to the Quilt World.

The Gestalt Principles are a visual study of the placement of objects in space, which depending on were they are placed will be analyzed by our brain differently.

Here is my interpretation of the Gestalt Principles using patchwork top set ups.

The first Principle is SIMPLICITY.

Hello Everybody,

I watched the movie A Star is Born and thought that would be a cool idea to look into stars in the quilt world, there are lots of stars, that can either be made from pointy diamonds or just with half square triangles and quarter square triangles.

I had a closer look to 3 star blocks that are famous in the quilt world, and made a little video to show them to you.

I am sure you can come up with some other ones, do leave me a comment with there names and I can prepare some quilt tops with them.

Today I'm going to tell you about the journey I have started.

In September 2019, I joined a course called DCA (Digital Course Academy), at first I spent the 12 weeks (length of the course) learning and applying the techniques that I was given.

I transformed a 5 volume book that I had made during the past 6 years into an online course. But as I was doing the work, new ideas kept on appearing in my head.

I started imagining how I could teach the quilt patterns in a different way, how I could use designs such as "Storm at Sea", "Drunkard's Path" or "Hunter's Star" in a new way.

How I could explain the use of the shapes, the use of the colors, the use of the patterns to make amazing and original quilts.

It is still an ongoing work, I have started giving the videos I made, the workbooks that go with them.

For the moment you might have the feeling you are only getting fragments of the puzzle, and that is true, as I am only at the beginning of my journey.

Hello Everyone,

I have been using Adobe Illustrator for a while now, it has allowed me to draw my fabric prints, to prepare all my PDFs, to make my designing a pleasure.

As you probably know, practice makes perfect, the more I need to make something the better I will get at using Illustrator. But once in a while, I like to jump on Youtube and try things out, that way I learn new tools that will be useful for my own work.

I will then type: Illustrator Tutorials Logo, I love all those visual 3D shapes, then I just follow the steps and try to reproduce the designs.

Here are some of my exercises, I added my business for fun!!

I gave the famous Rubik's Cube a try, I didn't look into the colors, I will have to give another go and place the colors differently, my color range was actually selected for this other design:

We have so many tools at our reach now thanks to internet, so we shouldn't hesitate to use them to learn new things.

Hello every one,

I did a Live on Facebook for this subject, but I thought it would be nice to turn it into a video with examples.

I love traditional blocks, but adding a little bit of eccentricity to it can be fun, and so I found a useful way to put it into action by just placing the motifs randomly on a nine patch block.

Hope this video gives you lots of ideas for you futur quilt tops.

The subject of this video came to me as I was browsing through a social network, I saw a quilt top that unfortunately had really nice color choices but had a big mistake in it.

You will understand what it was in the video.

When starting a quilt it is important to think about how the colors are going to interact with each other.

Colors behave differently with each other.

It is taking time for me to figure out how the technology is working, but I am getting there.

I am really happy to present to you this mini course, it is about the Visual Effects the placement of shapes on a motif will have on your blocks and therefore will have on your quilt tops.

I am giving you the 3 visual effects that I have come up with, I am using the pattern "Storm at sea" to set my examples so I hope you will enjoy this first adventure with me.

At the moment it is only a video, il will become a PDF workbook, but it takes time to make and I am always coming up with new ideas, so I sometimes don't know when to stop adding content to a document. I want to give you the best of what I have. The video will give you an insight of what I have already prepared. But the PDF workbook will have much more and will also have spreadsheets for you to give it a go.

Hello everyone,

We have a French expression "semer des cailloux": to sow pebbles.

Usually it is used as the meaning of finding the way back, the original book is called "Le Petit Poucet" by Charles Perrault, in English it is called "Little Thumb".

I am not using my pebbles to find my way back but I have been sowing them for many years now, and my pebbles are all the projects I have been doing around the patchwork and quilt world.

I have been passionate about it for a long time, and I have been making and working on many projects and now all my "pebbles" are meeting up together.

I am regrouping all my pebbles, and even though at times that might have had no sense individually, now that they are all together my little pebbles are making a big picture.
